Description
I have about a dozen drafting pencils from my working years. Having retired last year, I am cleaning house. These five pencils were purchased over the last six years and rarely used. New they range in price from 10 to 15 dollars. The order of the pencil brands in the title follows the order in the first photo and in the individual photos. Note that all except the Kokuyo are 0.5mm pencils. The Kokuyo is 0.3mm
The Alvin is a pretty straight-forward pencil that is made of metal and mostly plastic. The printing on this pencil is worn considerably.
The Kuru Toga is mostly metal and features the automatic lead rotation which is designed to keep the lead smooth and the line width uniform.
The Staedtler is also all metal and, as you'd expect from Staedtler is perfectly balanced and comfortable to use.
The Faber-Castell has a metal bottom and high-quality plastic barrel. It is also well balanced. This pencil features hard and soft lead tension settings. Hard holds the lead absolutely rigid for precise drawing. Soft provides a little spinginess to make writing more comfortable. (I haven't used it enough to know if this results in a real difference in feel.)
The Kokuyo is another straight-forward pencil with a metal grip and plastic barrel. It looks very similar to the Alvin but the plastic barrel has a softer finish in contrast to the glossy finish of the Alvin.
This auction also includes and unopened box of ten tubes of Pentel .5mm lead in F hardness, an opened box with eight tubes
of Pentel .5mm lead in HB hardness and two tubes of Faber-Castell .5mm lead in HB hardness. Each tube contains 12 leads. Note that the Faber-Castell lead has a trick cap that slides back to remove lead. It does not come off but allows a few leads to be shaken out through the hole in the cap.
